Summer Blackhorse

I am a multi-disciplinary artist. My primary mediums include fiber and reuse art, watercolor, and photography. I am also a muscian and writer. My work is deeply inspired by the natural world, science, and my ancestry. I am the owner of Land C Studio in Portland, Oregon.

I aim to be as sustainable as possible with my work, and I reuse at least 85% of the existing materials that I find or are donated to me. These materials include natural objects such as animal fibers, dried insects and plants, bones, rocks, and shells. From the manufactured world, I reuse glass, beads, frames, paper, metal, ceramics, plastics, and vintage or antique items. Additionally, I make dyes and tints from north and southwest plants, mushrooms, and burned wood.

No matter what medium I use, my creative goal is to produce moments in time that encapsulate, speak for, and preserve the memories of the past and tie them to the present. It is a personal exercise in alchemizing or transmuting physical and emotional debris into something new and healing.
